Especially for this production, costume designer Irena Belousova, a two-time laureate of the Golden Mask Award, created 423 costumes that faithfully reflect the era depicted in the novel — military uniforms, ball gowns of the high society, and carefully observed period details. The makeup artists also did remarkable work, skillfully recreating the appearance of people of that time. The production features original lighting solutions that have become a signature element of the Modern Theatre. The set designer is Yuri Grymov himself.

Around seventy performers appear on stage, including the renowned Sveshnikov Russian State Academic Choir, which performs throughout the production, presenting deeply moving songs, Orthodox sacred hymns, as well as works of Western European music.
